The combination of three research fields involving Nanotechnology, Photoprocesses, and Tissue-Engineering, was the path chosen by our group to generate scientific knowledge and technology to treat many CNS pathologies. Nanomedicine is undoubtedly the area of health that can most quickly benefit from these advances. Photoprocesses, conversely, encompass therapies that use visible light as an inducer and comprise Phototherapy and Photobiomodulation. We have been working on the development of a new drugs system (DDS), mainly applied to the treatment of cancer (skin, cervix, lung, bladder, prostate, and breast) and pathologies that affect the central nervous system (CNS), such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Brain cancer. Tissue Engineering, or Regenerative Medicine, could be successfully used with Nanotechnology and Photoprocesses, where tissue growth and regeneration are increasingly used. The basic principle behind all these studies starts with choosing an active or photoactive molecule that absorbs visible light that will be controlled and released on the target tissue. Then it will be bio-stimulated by visible light, leading to a biological response that can induce cancer cell death, healing-wound process, and CNS diseases. We believe that the approaches developed can bring positive results to patients ’lives quickly.
