Innovation and Energy Transition: ReLieVe

Chimie ParisTech is participating in the ReLieVe (Recycling Li-ion batteries for electric Vehicle) project, developed by three major European groups – Eramet, BASF and Suez – a collaborative project that received European funding of €4.7 million through EIT Raw Materials to develop an innovative recycling process on a large scale. This alliance has been selected by Europe for an innovative research programme whose project will start in January 2020 for a period of two years.

An innovative process for recycling lithium-ion batteries

The challenge of ReLieVe? Bringing the automobile into the circular economy, by recycling lithium-ion batteries from used electric vehicles to make new ones. The objective of the project is to develop an innovative closed-loop process for recycling lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, thus enabling the production of new lithium-ion batteries in Europe, supported by the growth of the electric vehicle market, which should generate significant battery recycling needs.

The academic expertise of Chimie ParisTech

The Chemistry ParisTech research teams will provide support by providing their scientific expertise on innovative recycling processes for lithium-ion batteries.
