The objective of the initiative is to create an institute (ICARE) on renewable energies and energy efficiency. Funded by the European Union, ICARE is being developed by Chinese and European partners.

The goal of ICARE is to train specialists to close the gap between the industry’s growing needs in terms of renewable energy experts and the skills that are currently available in the Chinese labor market.

At the same time, European and Chinese researchers are cooperating via a collaborative research platform.

European funding ended in 2017 and the consortium’s partners are working on a way to sustain the program.
