Located in the heart of Paris, PSL inspires dialog among and between all areas of knowledge, innovation, and creativity. Ranked among the world’s top 50 universities, it draws directly from research to train researchers, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and managers who are aware of their social responsibility, both individual and collective.
Excellence, transdisciplinarity and creativity are the three pillars of PSL University. Created in 2010 and the recipient of the Future Investments award, PSL brings together nine prestigious member institutions that have decided to build the future within a common public university.

Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences: the diversity of its disciplines is an asset; that of its students, be it geographical, cultural or social, is a strength.
Knowledge is at the heart of major contemporary changes. PSL’s students, researchers and teachers are actors in a globalized world; they are aware of their social, individual and collective responsibility; they want to support this dynamic with their capacity to innovate, to transform society by their ideas and their discoveries and to shape the profiles of tomorrow: scientists, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, senior managers.
With 2,900 researchers and 17,000 students, PSL’s strengths are comparable to those of the best universities in the world. A university with a human dimension, PSL has a real capacity for action (nearly 200 research projects and 100 academic projects launched since 2011). As such, it can focus on interdisciplinarity and maximize the support it can give to its students.
In September 2018, Times Higher Education included PSL University in its World University Ranking for the second year in a row. It’s ranked 41st in the world, out of the 1,250 institutions listed; it is one of the top 8 universities in continental Europe and ranks first among French universities. It is now on the same level as world-renowned universities such as King’s College in London, McGill in Canada, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne or the University of Tokyo.
Home to 28 Nobel prizes, 10 Fields medals, 3 Abel Prizes, 48 CNRS Gold medals, 50 Cesar and 79 Molière, PSL represents 8% of French research, 13% of French ERCs and produces a total of 6,000 publications annually.
PSL provides an academic environment of excellence where all disciplines intersect and enrich one another, where basic research and applied research communicate and where universities and companies interact. Entrepreneurial and free spirits will find all the resources they need to explore new thematic fields, build innovative curricula, create start-ups (around 40/year) and reach the greatest number of people with their knowledge (22 million courses and conferences have been downloaded to date).
