Chimie Pékin, a unique model of Franco-Chinese cooperation in engineering

China intends to continue opening up its education sector by encouraging world-renowned foreign universities in the field of science and engineering. Chimie Pékin BUCT, is a pioneer in this field. Established on Chinese soil since 2017, it trains engineers “à la française”, particularly appreciated by Chinese manufacturers for their innovative engineering talents.
Chimie Pékin, the French touch in engineering as a model for international cooperation. So much so that the Chinese authorities have decided to amplify international cooperation based on the Chimie Pékin BUCT model. China’s Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, has declared that efforts will be made to advance the opening up of high-level education and accelerate the development of an educational center with global influence. Through in-depth educational cooperation, Chimie Pékin BUCT has introduced excellent teaching resources and trained high-quality, internationally competitive engineering professionals. Chimie Pékin currently has almost 400 students and over 20 teaching staff. Since July, it has been one of Beijing’s 11 partner institutes approved under the Sino-foreign cooperative education regulations.
China Daily reports. In its August 6 article, the China Daily enthusiastically reports on the Franco-Chinese collaboration:
“Among the current partner institutes present in China, the Paris Curie School of Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology was jointly established by BUCT and Chimie ParisTech-PSL, a prestigious French higher education institute specializing in chemistry and engineering. Chimie Beijing, which began enrolling students in China in 2017, aims to introduce the elite French engineering education model, which is characterized by strong specialization, scientific training methods and an emphasis on internships and practical experience.”
Thus, Gauthier Roisine, assistant professor of chemistry, interviewed by the newspaper explains:
“I dreamed of teaching abroad and I think the experience in China is interesting and beneficial. I’m refining my teaching strategies to adapt them to students for whom French is not their mother tongue”.
As a member of the school’s chemistry teaching team, Mr. Roisine and other French and Chinese teachers collaborated on the publication of a bilingual textbook to guide chemistry experiments at university. They also created a professional glossary that translated over 1,000 chemical terms for students.
Arsène Losserand, a chemistry student at Chimie ParisTech-PSL, is also interviewed. He is taking part in a six-month exchange program at Chimie Beijing BUCT. He was impressed by the biorefinery course.
“We explored various chemical issues, in particular green chemistry, which gave me a better understanding of the discipline,” he says.
Chimie Pékin BUCT. Chimie Pékin trains engineers “à la française” in China. This engineering school, called BUCT-Paris Curie Engineer School, is the fruit of a partnership between the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) and a consortium of member schools of the Fédération Gay-Lussac (FGL). It is coordinated by Chimie ParisTech -PSL. It opened the doors of its preparatory cycle in September 2017 on the brand-new Changping campus (northwest of the metropolis) of BUCT University in Beijing.
