At the invitation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, Philippe Marcus, Director of Research Emeritus at CNRS and Scientific Advisor at Chimie ParisTech-PSL, delivered a prestigious lecture on the latest advances in corrosion science. A mark of international recognition for the scientific excellence embodied by our institution.

Understanding Fundamental Mechanisms to Design the Alloys of the Future. In his lecture, Professor Marcus emphasized the importance of in-depth knowledge of passive oxide films at the atomic and nanometric scales—an essential factor in designing corrosion-resistant metallic materials, especially for the most demanding energy applications.

A Multidisciplinary Approach Driving Innovation.By combining surface analytical techniques (XPS, ToF-SIMS, STM), electrochemical measurements, and DFT simulations, Philippe Marcus showcased the strength of a cross-disciplinary approach to studying passivation and localized corrosion in stainless steels and compositionally complex alloys.

International Recognition for a Committed Researcher. Author of more than 450 scientific publications and recipient of numerous awards—including the prestigious Marcel Pourbaix Award in 2024—Professor Marcus shared an innovative and inspiring perspective with the CityU community. His invitation reflects not only the international recognition of his expertise but also the global scientific standing of Chimie ParisTech-PSL.
