EELISA European University visit Malaquais

Building a strong and united Europe of knowledge, driven by an engaged community and firmly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals — from May 12 to 14, rectors, vice-presidents, students, and executive teams from the nine EELISA institutions gathered at Université PSL and École des Ponts ParisTech.
At the heart of their strategic discussions:  strengthening European joint degrees, enhancing a rigorous and high-quality academic offering ;  boosting the attractiveness of young researchers, Shaping the next generation of STEAM leaders in Europe — and beyond.

Three days of governance to strengthen European cooperation. During these three days of meetings, organized by École des Ponts and Université PSL, rectors, directors, and presidents of the ten member institutions gathered under the chairmanship of Christian Lerminiaux (Chimie ParisTech – PSL) and Anthony Briant (École nationale des ponts et chaussées). The Board welcomed representatives from all partner universities, including newly appointed leaders: Óscar García Suárez (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), Nicola Vitiello (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna), Regula Jöhl (ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften), El Mouhoub Mouhoud (Université PSL), and Alessandro Schiesaro (Scuola Normale Superiore). These discussions provided a renewed opportunity to strengthen collaboration and consolidate EELISA’s strategy, as the alliance enters a pivotal phase in its fifth year.

Strategic decisions for the future of the alliance. These working sessions led to several major decisions shaping the future of EELISA. A joint declaration in support of European joint degrees was signed, representing a significant step toward increased academic recognition across the European Higher Education Area. The members also adopted a new expansion strategy aimed at opening the alliance to new academic and industrial partners, in line with the ambitions of EELISA 2.0. Finally, the joint education strategy was revised, with the goal of fostering the development of interdisciplinary and innovative curricula that address today’s major scientific and societal challenges. In addition to the working sessions, our two institutions were proud to host a screening of the documentary A Mirror of the Cosmos (EELISA Special Mention), directed by Isabelle Carbonell, followed by a panel discussion with experts on water pollution.

To support this momentum, the next biannual meeting of EELISA’s governing bodies is already scheduled to take place in Istanbul this November, hosted by İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi.

Strong involvement from Chimie ParisTech – PSL. Chimie ParisTech – PSL is proud to have contributed to the hosting of these strategic meetings alongside Université PSL. Through its active participation in EELISA’s governance, the school reaffirms its commitment to a European model of engineering education—open, innovative, and aligned with today’s societal challenges. This involvement reflects its ambition to train engineers capable of thriving in an international, interdisciplinary, and responsible environment.
