EELISA ECEcoT: Two Days to Advance Education on Socio-Ecological Challenges in Europe
A two-day meeting was held at Chimie ParisTech – PSL as part of the ECEcoT project of the European University EELISA, coordinated by the school since 2024. The event was organised by Séverine Fogel, Deputy Director of International Relations, and Odile Majérus, Associate Professor and coordinator of the Training–Transition Working Group. The objective was to co-create teaching modules designed to equip future professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to address global environmental challenges.
A European partnership dedicated to the transition. The ECEcoT project brings together the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Universitatea Politehnica din București (UPB), Chimie ParisTech – PSL / Université PSL, and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
This partnership aims to co-develop educational modules providing fundamental knowledge and skills related to climate, biodiversity, natural resources, and the concept of a just transition. The initiative seeks to train future professionals capable of integrating socio-ecological challenges and planetary boundaries into their professional practices.
The meeting also offered an opportunity to exchange on the policies and practices implemented by each institution in the field of sustainable development.
Immersive workshops to move from awareness to action. Key discussions focused on the 2tonnes workshops organised during the Spring semester. These collective intelligence workshops immerse students, divided into international mixed groups, in an interactive simulation challenging them to reduce CO₂ emissions to two tonnes per person per year by 2050.
In addition, a face-to-face workshop complemented by hybrid sessions is planned for next year. It will include lectures, supervised group work, and the use of the En-ROADS simulation, a serious game exploring climate policies and their impacts. The workshop will conclude with a roundtable discussion bringing together companies involved in the socio-ecological transition.
Towards the creation of an EELISA community. The initiative will continue with the creation of a dedicated EELISA community and the submission of a funding application.
This gradual approach forms part of a long-term strategy to strengthen students’ awareness and education on socio-ecological transition and sustainable development at the European level.
