SUMMARY:Séminaire Programme Gradué Chimie PSL
DESCRIPTION:Superconductivity mediated by Rashba-like coupling to polar modes\nMaria Gastiasoro\, Donostia International Physics Center \nMotivated by experimental evidence suggesting a connection between superconductivity and ferroelectricity in bulk SrTiO3 and KTaO3-based heterostructures\, we study a pairing mechanism based on spin-orbit assisted coupling between the conduction electrons and the soft ferroelectric modes. We use ab initio computations supplemented with a microscopic model to show robust Rashba-like coupling and BCS pairing constant. The ab initio computations enable us to go beyond the linear-in-momentum conventional Rashba-like interaction and naturally explain a dome behaviour. The dome is attributed to a momentum dependent quenching of the angular momentum due to a competition between spin-orbit and hopping energies. These results make the Rashba dynamic coupling to the ferroelectric soft mode a compelling pairing mechanism in doped polar metals. \nWhere: \n\nRoom Boreau\, Building C\, 2nd Floor\nZoom link: https://espci.zoom.us/j/84513228025?pwd=a20yK3daWTBmRDJCQ2F4SU03cU9PZz09\nID: 845 1322 8025\nPassword: J.Valasek\n\n\nContact/to subscribe or unsubscribe: seminaires-lpem@espci.fr

DESCRIPTION:Controlling and positioning hybrid nanoparticle-DNA origami plasmonic antennas\nMarkus Etzkorn\, Laboratory of emerging nanometrology\, TU-Braunschweig\, Germany\nInstitute of Applied Physics\, TU-Braunschweig\, Germany \nDNA origami has proven to be a very versatile nano-breadboard that allows to create essentially unlimited amounts of almost identical copies of very different types of nanostructures either by itself\, or by attaching secondary particles to it. In many cases the created structures can also be positioned on pre-structured surfaces with very high accuracy. Here I want to report about our efforts to create nano-plasmonic antennas from Au-particles that are attached to rather simple DNA origamis. We have investigated different means to determine and control the distance between the particles on each origami. We have also investigated how the hybrid structures can be positioned on different substrates on pattern with one- or zero-dimensional confinement using drop-casting on pre-structured surfaces. In our case the pre-structured pattern was created by electron beam lithography. This offers very high positional control with few nanometer precision for a large number of plasmonic structures. With this approach also the orientation of the plasmonic structures can be controlled. We also investigate the important parameters that determine the occupation of possible adsorption sites within the incubation time after drop casting. \nWhere: \n\nRoom Ondes\, building C\, 3rd floor\nZoom link: https://espci.zoom.us/j/87392269219?pwd=T1Rrd0haczJ6V0w4STVraC9CTmk5UT09\nID: 873 9226 9219\nPassword: 452680\n\n\nContact/to subscribe or unsubscribe: seminaires-lpem@espci.fr

SUMMARY:Séminaire Programme Gradué Chimie PSL
DESCRIPTION:Quantum oscillations and signatures of electron interactions in the Dirac semimetal ZrTe5 By Stanislaw Galeski\, Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids\, Dresden\n \nMany-body systems composed from very different microscopic constituents often can be effectively described using the same low energy field theories. This principle is exemplified in the study of semimetals whose low energy band structures make them solid-state realizations of Dirac and Weyl Hamiltonians. This has allowed experimental exploration of exotic phenomena that are not easily accessible in particle physics experiments in tabletop in the solid-state experiment. However\, most understanding of the physics of those systems has been inferred from non-interacting theories. In this talk I will present results of experiments done on the prototypical Dirac semimetal ZrTe5 in extreme conditions (sub-kelvin temperatures\, pulsed magnetic fields). Those results suggest that although the relativistic nature of the low energy excitations is an essential ingredient of many observed exotic phenomena\, the inherently low charge carrier density requires going beyond the simple paradigm of non-interacting quasiparticles. Those results highlights that the study of semi-metals could open a new route for the investigating exotic ‘high energy’ phenomena in correlated electron systems.\n\n\nLPEM seminar: Stanislaw Galeski\, Thursday Apr. 20 at 2:00 pm (Paris time)\nRoom Boreau\, Building C\, 2nd Floor\n\nZoom link: https://espci.zoom.us/j/89654732524?pwd=d1lwSncyc3MxYmRaQlRtMy9qR0Y3Zz09ID: 896 5473 2524\nPassword: Edwin_Hall\nContact/to subscribe or unsubscribe: seminaires-lpem@espci.fr
